WELCOME TO MINNIESDALE CHAPEL
On a picture perfect site overlooking the Oruawharo River, an arm of the Kaipara Harbour, Minniesdale is the oldest surviving church in Albertland. The timber framework and stained glass windows of this little Gothic building were brought to New Zealand from England by the Rev E S Brookes (snr) one of the driving forces behind the 1860s Albertland Emigration Scheme.
Local settlers provided both kauri timber and labour to erect the Chapel on land donated by Hovey Brookes, the Rev Brookes’ second son. Minniesdale officially opened for worship in December 1867 and has been in continuous use ever since. Headstones in the cemetery mark the resting place of many Albertland settlers and their descendants.
A Category 1 Historic Places Trust building, Minniesdale Chapel can be hired for services, weddings and Christenings.
